My start point was the bull in Streatley, just yards from where the Ridgeway path passes by. |
Crossing the Thames |
Boats coming into the Thames lock |
This is where I finished last time ! |
Yup - this is the way ! |
As you weave between the houses, the National Trail becomes surprisingly narrow and overgrown |
That's a bit better ! |
Our first view of the Thames since we crossed it. |
Close to the railway line, with it's new, not very subtle, overhead electrification |
I ended up catching up with the guy in the distance and we walked together chatting for a while until I left the Ridgeway near Wallingford. He was not only walking the Ridgeway, but continuing to the Icknield Way and onto the Peddlers Way before finishing on the North Norfolk coast ! He'd taken just 2 1/2 days to complete what I'd done in 4. Humbled was not the word !
A useful map of South Stoke |
The many walks around South Stoke |
South stoke had some beautiful houses ... |
... and a church. |
Another beautiful house |
Leaving South Stoke |
It's been a while since I've seen one of these reminders |
At last - we're walking alongside the Thames |
They have nice views |
The railway bridge |
Actually it's two railway bridges ! |
Train ! |
It's all flat here - unlike our first 4 days. |
North Stoke Church |
Yup - we're on the right route |
North Stoke Village Hall |
A lake ! |
Wide, flat and shady. |
And this is the point where I officially leave the Ridgeway |
To cross under the Wallingford Bypass into Wallingford itself. |
Yup - I've left the Ridgeway behind |
But I continue alongside the Thames |
A nice way to travel |
Wallingford Bridge and one of it's nice churches |
A panorama of Riverside Meadows |
Information about Riverside Meadows |
By the Bridge |
Crossing the Thames into Wallingford for a bite to eat |
