River Wansbeck to Newbiggin-by-the-sea

After my long walk north to south along the Northumberland Coast Path, which then becomes the English Coast Path, I wanted to explore a little further south.

Technically this was a there-and-back walk, but I only recorded the return.

3 miles.

Cardiff Bay

A circular walk around Cardiff Bay - made possible by the barrage built in the late '90s.

Valerie was still recovering from her bad leg, so this was quite an achievement for her.

6 miles

Ride 'n' Stride 2017

Ride 'n' Stride is an annual sponsored event where you have the choice of riding (horse or bike) or striding and you visit as many churches as possible.

This year we chose to walk (and catch the bus back).  Part of the fun is planning an efficient route trying to get in as many churches as possible.  This year we skipped the Southcote churches while doing more in the town centre.

IKEA and Linear Park

I wanted a walk which went past Ikea as I wanted to see how the building is going.  I came up with this, including the Linear Walk in Calcot.

Tesco Thames Walk

I wanted to do the reverse of the stretch of Training Walk #3 which went along the north side of the Thames.  However I wanted to save a little bit of effort, so I got dropped a little closer to the Thames of at Tescos .

Last 'Beat The Street' walk of 2015

Before I knew it, it was the last day of Beat the Street 2015.  I'd left it too late in the evening to do a mammoth walk like 2014, but I tried to visit as many boxes as I could before it got too late.

Selsey & West Wittering

No formal walk with route followed, but a pleasant Sunday rediscovering Selsey (including a giant cooked breakfast), West Wittering Beach and East Head - a  National Trust owned split off of West Wittering Beach.

A rather overcast day, with no great views, so no decent photos I'm afraid.

Total Steps over the whole day : 19.609.

First 'Beat The Street' walk of 2014

As the Beat The Street website says ...

Beat the Street is a real-life walking and cycling game. People earn points by walking, cycling or scooting and tapping a dedicated RFID (Radio Frequency ID) card on sensors (Beat Boxes).

A player taps their RFID card or key fob at various points on their way to and from work, school and to the shops and tracks their progress online.

Participants can also join teams by choosing from the list on the registration page.

So I joined the Park Lane School team, and I was off

I did a good number of 'Beat The Street' walks in May and early June, but only recorded my first and last.

Ride and Stride - 20 Churches from edge of Tilehurst to Reading Town Centre

20 churches, 6 ½ hours walking, nearly 24,000 steps (that’s about 12 miles). All that and Valerie still found time to go shopping in Heelas !

The plan was to photograph each church - but after forgetting the first five, we kinda gave up !

So here's a (rough) map instead...

Sadly, Google Maps can't actually handle a route with 20 destinations, but this gives you a general idea.

Henley Treasure Hunt

Some friends and us like doing Treasure Hunts when we get together (http://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/).  The facts that it was a very hot day, we didn't start until late, and we only had a few hours on the car park clock are our excuse as to why we didn't complete it.

Nevertheless, here's some photos as to how far we got. (Remember, click on any photo for a better 'lightbox' view of the whole day).

Rome - Day 3

Another day walking, but slightly curtailed as Val was going down with the Flu.

Reading

Today was a 'Walking Saturday'.  However, because (a) it was flipping cold & (b) I needed to go into town to deal with an issue with my new camera, all I did today was walk home from the center of town.

I'd always wanted to walk the length of the Oxford Road, but no pictures I'm afraid.

Steps : 12,557 - over the whole day.

Winter Wonderland of Tilehurst

OK, this entry is a bit of a cheat - a video I did during the snows of 2009 - Winter Wonderland of Tilehurst.

Most (but not all) of the photos are from us walking around delivering Christmas Presents on a wonderful sunny crisp and clear day after heavy snow.
