Thames Path - Goring to Pangbourne (and home).

The Summer holidays were nearly over, so on my 'Walking Saturday' I got dropped off in Goring to walk home along the Thames Path.  Interestingly, the Thames Path doesn't go alongside the Thames for about half the distance.

Once I got to Pangbourne, I headed off home.

Tesco Thames Walk

I wanted to do the reverse of the stretch of Training Walk #3 which went along the north side of the Thames.  However I wanted to save a little bit of effort, so I got dropped a little closer to the Thames of at Tescos .

Last 'Beat The Street' walk of 2015

Before I knew it, it was the last day of Beat the Street 2015.  I'd left it too late in the evening to do a mammoth walk like 2014, but I tried to visit as many boxes as I could before it got too late.

South West Coast Path - Eype Mouth to Seatown (and back)

Our plan to drive to Seatown and walk back to West Bay was thwarted by a traffic jam on the A35.  So we parked at Eype Mouth and I did a there-and-back walk to Seatown while Val walked back to West Bay, a repeat of Sunday evening's walk.

South West Coast Path - Burton Mere to West Bay (with loop)

This was meant to be a figure of 8 walk from one of the National Trust leaflets, but as Val's knee played up, she drove back after completing the first (longer) loop, so I took the opportunity to walk all the way back to West Bay.

South West Coast Path - Eype Mouth to West Bay

On the first full day of our West Bay holiday, we were keen to explore.  This walk was a quick there-and-back over the hill from West Bay to Eype Mouth.

Tobermory and Aros Park

We had one full day on Mull and wanted to fit in both walking and exploring the whole island by car - so the walking had to fit into a morning.  We set off from our B&B and walked down to Aros Park.  Each waterfall we passed was bigger than the previous one and we ended up taking a side path to see the largest one before looping the lake and heading for home.

Three Walks around Iona - South, High & North

After several days of travel both to and through the Scottish Inner Hebrides, this was our first chance to walk.  Iona isn't big, so I was determined to walk it all !

Fitting it all in amongst exploring the town and abbey wasn't easy, so we didn't quite manage to explore every beach I'd hoped, but over three walks during the day, we reached the southernmost point, (very nearly) the northernmost point, as well as the highest point on Iona.

Our 1st Walk - to the South of the Island

Our 2nd Walk - to the highest point on the island

Our 3rd Walk - to the North point of the island.

Training Walk #3

Again I couldn't join the main group on their training walk, so I did a slightly modified version of my own.

I started close to Tilehurst Station & went west towards Pangbourne, picking up the Thames Path at Purley.  Cross the river to Whitechurch and back east along the north of the Thames towards Reading, picking up a small part of the Chiltern Way Southern Extension at Mapledurham.  Cross the river again at Reading Lock and back west along the Thames Paths .

It was advertised as 15 miles.  I ended up doing 15.9 miles.  It took me 5h 10mins (4h 51mins excluding rest stops) .  I then walked back home, adding 1.2 miles in 27 mins.

Training Walk #2

I couldn't make the 2nd training walk on the same day as everyone else, so I did it a couple of weeks later.

The second walk was published as 10 miles long.  However I lost the official route early on and had to do it from memory.  I missed out an up and down hill loop as I knew that the main group had also missed it out.

In the end my half-remembered walk was 10.2 miles which I did on 3 hours 30 minutes (that's 2.9 mph).

Training Walk #1

My workplace are planning to enter a group into the Thames Path Challenge this coming September.. They're putting on a number of training walks, so I joined them with a vague idea that I might do part of the Challenge.

This first walk published as 6 miles long, but I measured it at 5.6, which we managed in 1 hour 45 minutes (that's 3.2 mph).  With walking there and back, that made  8.5 miles before noon !
