Ridgeway - Day 2 - Ogbourne St George to White Horse Hill

Day 2 of my Ridgeway walk.  My only minor detours today were explore to Liddington Castle, Wayland's Smithy and White Horse hill, consisting of Uffington Castle, Dragon Hill & the White Horse itself.

My route, as recorded by ViewRanger.

Setting out from where I left off yesterday.
The 'Support Team' prepares to drive home
We're on low ground here, circumnavigating Ogbourne St George
So thats 5.2 miles until lunch
Under an old railway
Climbing up, and looking down on Ogbourne St George & the ridge I was on yesterday
Suddenly, a house appears !
We've gone around Ogbourne St George, and we're heading north.
Mmm, doesn't look much like a ridge here.
The views are hampered by the trees & hedges
Now there's a better view
The only seat I saw all day !
An ancient ridge and furrow farming system unless I'm mistaken.
I shall take the detour to Liddington Castle I think
Swindon & the M4 in all their glory
Liddington Castle defensive ditch
Panorama from Liddington Castle embankment (looking West)
Panorama from Liddington Castle embankment (looking North West towards Swindon)
Liddington Castle trig point and topograph
Time for a spot of lunch I think !
Walking back to the Ridgeway
A Bunker !
Dropping down
Now I must walk along the roadside
Please don't run us over !
Here, the 'National Trail' is 1 1/2 feet wide between the crash barrier and the kerb.
Over the M4
Some people know how to travel in style !
Where I'm going and where I've been
At last, I can leave the road !
An unexpected memorial
The 'National Trail' is a good bit wider here !
Alas my legs are weary and didn't want to walk a 200 yards detour to  see the view from this trig point
Vale of the White Horse
Again, not great views
With all that camouflage, I don't think he wants to be found !
One of the very few taps along the whole Ridgeway.
I have now reached here !
The path is a bit narrower now
A short detour to Waylands Smithy
Wayland's Smithy
Information Board for Wayland's Smithy
The entrance
Looking inside
Uffington Castle in the distance
I'm now nearly at the end of today's stretch
Just half a mile to go.
We must be at White Horse Hill - it says so !

This sign is an ancient monument in itself.  The Ministry of Works ceased to exist in 1970 !

The White Horse (from a strange angle) and Dragon Hill.

It's really hard to take a photo of the Horse !
